About the role

The Nurse Practitioner provides advanced clinical care and medical management within Student Health Services through independent and collaborative practice under the oversight of a Medical Director and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies. The position is responsible for patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing authority, preventive care, health education, immunization compliance, emergency intervention, referral coordination, documentation, and quality clinical outcomes in an outpatient college health setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
  • Prescribe medications and manage treatment plans
  • Provide preventive care and health education
  • Ensure immunization compliance
  • Conduct emergency interventions
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists or consultants
  • Maintain accurate and compliant clinical documentation
  • Support quality clinical outcomes and patient-centered care
  • Interpret laboratory findings and apply clinical judgment
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • Lead or participate in quality improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners
  • “Approved to practice medical acts” by the Joint Subcommittee

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management
  • Ability to interpret laboratory findings and apply sound clinical judgment
  • Skill in patient education, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, documentation standards, and clinical technologies
  • Ability to lead quality improvement initiatives and support patient-centered healthcare delivery

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in college health, primary care, family medicine, or ambulatory care
  • Experience working in a university or public-sector healthcare environment
  • Experience using electronic medical record systems
