Responsibilities

  • Directs the clinical nursing services provided at Children’s Outpatient Program clinic.
  • Identifies problems, evaluates alternative solutions, and implements effective solutions.
  • Monitors program contracts, budgets, and staff productivity as directed.
  • Ensures compliance with DMH, Joint Commission, Medicaid standards, SAMHSA grant, and UDS data requirements.
  • Communicates effectively with physicians regarding consumers’ physical and mental conditions.
  • Interfaces with the multi-disciplinary team and participates in the development of interdisciplinary treatment plans.
  • Administers medications, observing the Seven Rights of medication administration.
  • Contacts laboratories, requests and monitors results, and reports abnormal findings to the physician.
  • Provides emergency care as needed (CPR, MindSet, PRN Medications) per AltaPointe Policy & Procedures.
  • Provides supervision and oversight of MAC services and ensures compliance with the Nurse Delegation Program for the Transitional Age residential program.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize crisis situations and de-escalate or resolve them as needed.
  • Acts as MAS nurse for the division.
  • Adheres to professional code of ethics and demonstrates child/adolescent and adult-specific competencies.
  • Administers appropriate personnel functions, including interviewing and screening nursing applicants.
  • Provides staff training in facility orientation, policies, procedures, program operations, and specific skill areas.
  • Applies personnel policies and procedures consistently.
  • Completes employee performance evaluations objectively and submits them on time.
  • Promotes the concept of treatment teams and acts as a member of the treatment team.
  • Provides positive and effective leadership, consultation, and supervision to staff as needed.
  • Ensures competence of program nursing staff.
  • Seeks clinical supervision and consultation as needed and accepts suggestions for improvement.
  • Actively works to enhance clinical skills.

Clinical Record Keeping

  • Documents in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policy.
  • Documents clearly and concisely, including consumer problems, treatment goals, and services provided.
  • Ensures documentation is completed promptly, accurately, and updated when appropriate.
  • Documents legibly.

Professional Conduct

  • Treats consumers with care, dignity, and compassion.
  • Respects consumer privacy and confidentiality.
  • Is pleasant and cooperative with others.
  • Assists consumers and visitors as needed.
  • Does not allow personal values to inhibit ability to relate to and care for others.
  • Is sensitive to consumers’ needs, expectations, and individual differences.
  • Is gentle and calm with consumers and families.

Administrative Duties

  • Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities and MMHC committees as required.
  • Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Accesses appropriate community resources according to consumer needs.
  • Follows MMHC Policy & Procedures.
  • Maintains current state license and requirements for renewals (e.g., CEUs) and attends required in-services and workshops.

Qualifications

  • Possesses a current RN license to practice in the state of Alabama.
  • Knowledge in child/adolescent and adult specialty to be attained within six months of employment, including:
    • Psychiatric disorders in the child/adolescent and adult population.
    • General and psychiatric nursing care.
    • Medical terminology.
    • Psychopharmacology and the use of psychotropic medications.
    • Behavior management, crisis intervention, and interventions for acute psychotic consumers.
    • Principles of growth and development.
    • Educational methods for children/adolescents with severe and persistent psychiatric disorders.
    • Cultural diversity.
    • DMH, Medicaid, and Joint Commission standards.
    • Standards for the Nurse Delegation Program and MAS certifications.
    • Utilizing electronic health records.
    • Private insurance reimbursement.
    • Trauma Informed Care Principles.
