Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates the activities of Nursing and Support Staff of assigned units to ensure patient care is provided in accordance with the established standards and legal requirements.
  • Ensures that continuity of care is maintained during all shifts of the unit providing 24-hour patient care.
  • Provides professional Nursing care to patients when necessary due to workload or staffing shortages.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing is provided for all shifts of operation for responsible units. Monitors, evaluates, and modifies staffing patterns to properly utilize assigned staff; prepares and modifies work schedules as needed; approves paid time off, sick time, and leave of absence requirements.
  • Coordinates QA/CQI activities for assigned areas; ensures that unit standards and monitoring procedures are consistent with the goals and objectives of programs and relevant legal requirements.
  • Continuously reviews processes for operational improvement and efficiencies.
  • Performs daily rounding to ensure patient satisfaction criteria are met and to monitor and evaluate employee performance. Investigates, resolves, and documents the resolution of complaints or incidents concerning patients in partnership with Guest Relations.
  • Communicates with various departments to coordinate services, resolve operational issues, and improve quality of patient care.
  • Provides input to operational budget development and manages the budget for areas of responsibility.
  • Oversees the planning and delivery of patient care by Nursing Staff during the 24-hour operation of assigned unit; conducts regularly scheduled rounds to ensure quality care is provided.
  • Conducts staff meetings to ensure continuity of planning and implementation of effective patient care.
  • Develops performance plans, identifies performance issues, manages performance, and supports career development. Approves and contributes to in-service education programs for assigned staff.
  • Coordinates the educational activities of staff; communicates new/revised protocols, guidelines, and standards to assigned staff as changes occur.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
  • ACLS and PALS certification
  • CNOR certification
  • Current NJ RN License
  • Demonstrated clinical competence with a minimum of 3 years acute care clinical surgical services experience in Nursing
  • Prior Operating Room Clinical Manager, Assistant Manager, or Supervisor experience required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Leadership and motivational skills
  • Critical thinking, program development, and project management skills
  • Skills in group facilitation and/or team building
  • Ability to manage division budget required
  • Knowledge of AORN's Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and customer service skills
  • Demonstrates emotional maturity and ability to function effectively when under stress

Pay

Minimum rate of $148,262.40 annually. The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. Posted rates may vary based on labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding.
