Nurse Manager of NICU

About the role

The Nurse Manager of NICU is accountable for a defined patient care area, ensuring an environment that supports individualized goal-directed nursing care aligned with the hospital's mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

• Provide an environment where nurses practice autonomously using evidence-based practices.
• Plan and deliver individual goal-directed nursing care focusing on patient safety.
• Develop and implement a plan for care delivery with patient safety as the primary goal.
• Manage unit-based staff effectively and demonstrate expertise in selecting and managing them.
• Participate in and encourage staff participation in performance improvement activities.
• Participate in and encourage staff participation in performance improvement activities.
• Deliver patient care and/or department service safely, competently, and efficiently.
• Maintain and enhance skills through consultation with interdisciplinary team members and participation in in-service and continuing education programs.
• Follow established guidelines for compliance with Infection Prevention and TJC Patient Safety Goals and Practices.
• Control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or services delivered.
• Report trends in occurrences to staff and address patient safety in the Performance Improvement Plan/Patient Safety Plan.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field preferred.
• Texas State RN license or compact license accepted, National Specialty Certification or plan to achieve within 1 year of hire.
• BLS/ACLS as required by individual departments.
• NRP and STABLE within 6 months of hire.
• Minimum 2 years in a nursing management position.

Qualifications

• Licensure/Certification/Registration: Texas State RN license or compact license accepted, National Specialty Certification or plan to achieve within 1 year of hire.

Skills

Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are essential. Knowledge of evidence-based practices, patient safety, and regulatory compliance is crucial. Proficiency in communication, collaboration, and delegation is also important.
