Position Summary

The Nurse Manager, Patient Care Services Atrium West at SJM Chelsea serves as a member of the Ministry Organization’s nursing leadership team. Responsible for day-to-day operations, scheduling, staffing and providing 24/7 accountability for patient care delivery, planning, and evaluation of services of one or more clinical areas. They participate in and supports strategic development and outcomes management of nursing clinical areas. Are responsible for review and evaluation of operations and services in accordance with business requirements, marketplace trends and technological needs. They provide clinical and administrative leadership for planning, organizing, directing, monitoring and evaluating safe, superior and preeminent quality patient care to ensure the advancement of clinical practice and patient care for a nursing unit that is consistent with the ANA Scope of Practice, American Organization of Nurse Executive (AONE) Nurse Leader/Manager competencies, and American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Standards.

What The Nurse Manager Will Need

  • State of Michigan Registered Nursing license required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree required. Appropriate Master's Degree in Nursing, Business or Health Administration preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years clinical nursing or leadership experience at the unit level in a related health care setting.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing practice in a clinical specialty evidenced through professional practice/administrative certification. Certification preferred within 24 months of hire.
  • Member of a professional nursing organization preferred.

What The Nurse Manager Will Do

  • Serves as a member of the nursing leadership team to participate in the development of the nursing strategic plan, short and long term goals and objectives, standards of care and operating plans for the assigned clinical area(s).
  • Collaborates with members of the inter-professional team and unit staff in the development, implementation, and monitoring of unit operating and capital budgets.
  • Develops, implements, and manages ongoing measurement, action planning, and evaluation methods related to all dimensions of performance inclusive of colleague engagement, patient and family experience, workplace safety, healthy work environments, clinical outcome and financial performance targets for the assigned clinical area(s).
  • Develops, implements, and monitors plans related to education and required competencies, orientation, retention, cultural competence, conflict management, and coaching of colleagues to ensure safe, quality, patient care for the assigned clinical area(s).
  • Ensures the recruitment, retention, development, mentoring and succession planning of engaged patient care colleagues within the assigned clinical area(s).
  • Develops, promotes, and implements an environment of shared leadership and decision making.
  • Participates in evaluating, selecting and integrating health care technology and information systems that support patient care.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Nursing and inter-professional team members, facilitates, develops, directs, manages, and monitors the implementation of effective evidence-based programs, policies, and protocols, to measure, analyze and continuously improve the safety and quality of patient care in the assigned clinical area(s).
  • Communicates and collaborates on a regular basis with nursing leaders, colleagues, inter-professional team about achievements and concerns related to patient safety, quality, patient loyalty, colleague engagement, and satisfaction. Develops and implements action plans to address concerns.
  • Participates in SJM Hospital's decision-making workgroups to implement improvement changes within the organization.
  • Ensures compliance with all healthcare standards and requirements established by various licensing, regulatory, and accreditation bodies. Maintains a working knowledge of Trinity Health Organizational Integrity Programs, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
