Nurse Manager

This position manages the day-to-day operations of the med/surg department, promoting and restoring patients' health through day-to-day management, long-term planning, staff development, and collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Administer patient care and special procedures specific to the department.
• Collaborate with leadership to develop objectives, processes, and nursing care management strategies.
• Maintain nursing operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies.
• Recruit, select, orient, and train nursing and auxiliary staff.
• Schedule and assign nursing staff, ensuring follow-up on work results.
• Manage staff performance through coaching, counseling, and appraisals.
• Provide information to patients and healthcare teams by answering questions.
• Resolve patient needs using multidisciplinary team strategies.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and system enhancements.
• Assist in creating reports and presentations on patient-centered care and quality improvement.
• Review quality reports from applicable databases.
• Demonstrate effective teaching techniques using adult learning principles.
• Participate in meetings and committees as requested.
• Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or treatment.
• Foster a positive work environment.
• Contribute to patient assessments and the development/modification of care plans.
• Work on the floor as needed and implement appropriate aspects of patient care plans.
• Delegate tasks safely to others, consistent with educational preparation and nursing practice acts.
• Provide safe and effective nursing care directly or indirectly.
• Administer medications according to facility policies and procedures.
• Communicate with all members of the healthcare team.
• Ensure required documentation is complete and compliant with regulations.
• Evaluate and re-evaluate nursing needs, updating care plans as necessary.
• Observe and report changes in patient condition to physicians and other health professionals.
• Maintain current knowledge of nursing trends and participate in in-service programs.
• Ensure safety and infection control practices are followed.
• Distribute and document medications, including narcotics, per established standards.
• Assess and maintain required inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Respond to emergency situations.
• Maintain confidentiality of client and patient information.
• Think quickly and competently in stressful situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program (BSN preferred).
• Current RN license issued by the State of Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
• Current BLS certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
• Current ACLS certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
• Current PALS certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
• Five years of full-time RN experience in LTAC, Critical Care, ER, or comparable settings.
• Two years of supervisory experience.
