Nurse Externship Program | Summer 2027| 8 Week Paid Program

About the role

The Nurse Extern will be responsible for assisting with unit/patient care needs under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. The nurse extern will shadow a nurse preceptor and observe nursing care while practicing in the role of a Certified Nursing Assistant I or II. Externs will be expected to work the schedule of their assigned preceptor.

Schedule

May 17th – July 9th, 2026. Full time – 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week, available holidays and weekends and rotating shifts.

Requirements

• Enrollment in an accredited nursing program and entering senior year fall of 2025
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current listing as a Nurse Aide I in good standing with the Division of Health Regulation
• Nurse Aide II required before start of Nurse Externship Program (May 19, 2025)
• Must possess full range of body motion to pass a basic FIT test to include bending, stooping, standing and sitting for extended periods of time
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
• A 300-word essay describing why you would like to be a nurse extern with Iredell Health System, your reasons for going into nursing, and future career goals (to be uploaded with application)
