Summer 2027 Student Nurse Externship

About the role

As a Student Nurse Extern, you will work alongside an RN mentor and provide best-in-class, quality, and evidence-based patient care. You will experience clinical coaching, hands-on learning, and full integration into your practice environment. Your assigned RN mentor will help you develop the critical thinking skills needed to increase your confidence as a nursing professional. In addition, you will be supported by a member of our nursing professional development team to ensure your learning needs are met as you gain the best clinical experience possible.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program
• Must have successfully completed first and second semester clinical rotations and be entering your final year of your nursing program
• Official transcripts required at time of hire
• Two letters of recommendation from clinical instructors required
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through the Maryland Board of Nursing, by time of hire OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license through the Maryland Board of Nursing
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, by time of hire
• No experience outside of nursing school is necessary

Schedule

• 36–40 hours per week, 12-hour shifts
• Three 4-hour program classes in addition to scheduled shifts
• During summer, schedule will mirror your clinical coach's schedule, excluding holidays

Qualifications

• Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements
• Maintain unit specific and hospital competencies in accordance with policy requirements
