About the Role
A Nurse Extern at Corpus Christi Medical Center will gain hands-on experience as part of the nursing team, exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role while delivering safe, compassionate care and building skills for advanced responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide essential care for patients, including assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
- Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as competency grows.
- Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless patient care.
- Help patients and families understand care plans and offer guidance for health and recovery.
- Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and ensuring organization.
- Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with supervisors or preceptors to build a personal career development plan.
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (or currently enrolled in a nursing program).
No prior experience required.
