Responsibilities
- Implement, monitor, evaluate, and develop nursing educational programs, including orientation and developmental activities in an assigned health care setting.
- Conduct training and ongoing competency assessments to align educational opportunities with health care goals, operational standards, and priorities.
- Coordinate nursing educational programs and provide continuous education and training to nursing staff; assess educational needs.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate in-service nursing orientation; maintain records of orientation, staff development, and educational activities; monitor and submit regulatory reports.
- Identify and collect information on learning needs; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing education and training programs; serve as a resource for educational inquiries.
- Conduct program evaluations to measure learning impact and outcomes against strategic goals, enhancing clinical care and employee performance.
- Assess learners’ progress and adjust orientation, competencies, lesson plans, and teaching techniques as needed.
- Contribute to competency assessments by monitoring staff knowledge and compliance with national Patient Safety Goals; participate in competency validation for new staff.
- Serve on nursing and health care committees; develop and direct continuous quality improvement programs to achieve patient care outcomes.
- Instruct and provide in-service education on new products, equipment, and procedural updates.
- Identify and implement evidence-based nursing methodologies and best practices; develop programs based on American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards.
- Develop teaching and learning strategies to promote participant engagement.
Requirements
- A valid New York State license and current registration as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Valid and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA), obtained through facility orientation if not already held.
- A Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related nursing/education field from an accredited college or university.
- Three years of experience as a registered nurse in specialty area(s), including one year providing nursing education and training in specialty area(s); or a valid and current certification as a Nurse Educator.
Preferences
- Knowledge of the Emergency Department.
- For Nurse Educator Level II: Assignment to a highly specialized area (e.g., critical care, emergency services, perioperative care) or a group of specialty areas.
