About the role

The Nurse Educator role at Samaritan is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and delivering orientation and educational information to new and existing members of the nursing staff. This includes facilitating and teaching certification classes such as ACLS, ACLS-OB, PALS, NRP, TNCC, and ENPC.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, maintains and conducts general orientation for new members of the nursing staff.
  • Plays a key role in the nurse residency program for newly graduated nurses.
  • Assists nursing directors in the development of unit orientations and teaches various certification courses.
  • Coordinates and teaches programs like ACLS, ACLS-OB, TNCC, NRP, ENPC, and PALS.
  • Determines the need for testing and develops and administers both written and performance tests.
  • Participates in the PCS Education Taskforce to identify, develop, and deliver education for staff development.
  • Supports nursing directors in implementing improvement plans for nursing staff members with skill deficiencies.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and conducts other nursing and patient-related educational programs as assigned.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and writes training content, procedures, and assessments.
  • Estimates, tracks, and controls budgetary needs for educational programs within area of responsibility, and monitors costs to determine appropriate registration fees.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
  • Serves as educational consultant to facilities, taskforces, committees, and projects relating to policy, procedure, and program development.
  • Facilitates/teaches orientation classes for nursing students before their clinical rotations at Samaritan Healthcare.
  • Facilitates/teaches classes for Pre-Op Joint Replacement patients.
  • May assist Employee Health in the provision of vaccinations to staff.
  • Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in nursing or a related field preferred.
  • Current Washington State RN Licensure.
  • Holds HCP (Healthcare Provider) Level of BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire – AHA or equivalent.
  • CPR and ACLS/PALS instructor status preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years nursing experience in acute care within the previous 7 years.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in conducting nursing education.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates competent, current, general nursing skills.
  • Possesses working knowledge of training methodologies and practices, such as adult learning principles, needs analysis, and skills assessment.
  • Demonstrates competent training skills in a variety of settings, including classroom, one-on-one tutoring, on-the-job mentoring and instruction, etc.
  • Conceives and structures training programs and develops training materials for classroom and other forms of delivery.
  • Coordinates educational events efficiently and effectively.
  • Possesses communication skills (written, spoken and listening).
  • Demonstrates positive professional interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of software programs, such as Word and PowerPoint, and able to learn and use new software programs.
  • Organizes workload and manage systems to meet task requirements and deadlines.

Skills

  • Manual dexterity, light physical effort, ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Good reading eyesight and visual acuity.
  • Able to see clearly 20 feet or more, to judge distance and space relationships, and to see peripherally.
  • Ability to hear in person and on the phone and have full acuity.
  • Exposure to infections, contagious/bloodborne diseases, body fluids, diseased organs and tissues, and waste material.
  • Exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements (accidents, injuries, illness, odorous chemicals and specimens, hazardous anesthetic agents, a variety of electro-mechanical hazards, etc.).
  • Exercise of judgment/action that could result in the death of a patient.
  • Subject to emergency/crisis situations with patients/families and may be required to perform emergency care.
  • Utilizes universal precautions and any other precautions as indicated, including the use of prescribed personal protective equipment.

$60,000 - $70,000 annually.

Schedule

This is a full-time day shift position working 40 hours a week.
