Nurse Clinician - Lactation Specialist 50-80% Days

Providing Lactation Assessment, Management, Education and Instruction

Performing consultations, rental or sale of lactation equipment and supplies, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Offering post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/chest feeding, family bonding and planning, etc.
  • Coordination and management of care for patients, including those with complex needs.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers, being an advocate for the patient at all times.
  • Evaluating patient's response to care and initiating independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate.
  • Cooking and facilitating patient care between multiple disciplines including home health agencies, referring physicians and other community support services.
  • Coordinating patient care to better utilize supportive services through patient visit and possible admission, pre-schedules testing, follows up with test results to both patient and physician, obtains medical history, coordinates follow up visit appointment, provides medication, rehabilitation teaching, etc.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of division/unit quality assessment and improvement programs.
  • Using relevant nursing research to improve clinical practice and investigate nursing care problems.

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of 1 - 3 years of current Lactation consultant, NICU, or OB nursing experience
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
  • Demonstrated expertise in specific clinical area of practice
  • Demonstrate excellent patient interaction/communication/education
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to obtain IBCLC certification within 1-2 years after hire

Pay and Schedule

SEIU Pay Grade: 70 - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/pay-plans/seiu-pay-plan

Percent of Time: 50% - 80%

Schedule: Day hours with every 7th weekend and 1 holiday
