About the role

The Nurse Clinician works in a 24-bed pediatric unit that cares for patients from various medical specialties including nephrology, neurology, cardiology, pulmonology, gastrologic, and endocrinology. The unit also handles surgical specialties like trauma, plastics, and general care surgery. The unit includes both general care and step-down patients, with special emphasis on hematology/oncology, epilepsy monitoring, and bone marrow transplant populations. Telemetry monitoring is used for some general care and step-down patients.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and treating complex patients and their health responses.
  • Aids the healthcare team in preventing illness and injury, maintaining wellness, and providing comfort.
  • Directs, educates, leads, and holds accountable for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs within the scope of the unit's mission, goals, and objectives.

Requirements

  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible compact state. AHA BLS HCP certification or equivalent.
  • Experience: 5 years nursing experience, minimum one year in the position's specialty patient population or practice setting, and experience in staff education and professional development.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, enrolled in a Master’s degree program within 36 months of hire. Master’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 50 lbs, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching overhead, and repetitive reaching.
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
  • Emotional: Fast-paced environment, steady pace, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, ability to adapt to frequent changes.

Benefits

Special consideration will be given to applicants enrolled in Baccalaureate to Doctoral programs who may require longer than 36 months to complete the terminal degree.

Pay

Negotiable with immediate supervisor in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.

Schedule

Generally works day shifts, but may require flexibility for special projects or meeting organizational and staff needs.
