Pay

$23.25–39.10/hour (per diem rate varies by shift; highest pay for night and weekend coverage)

Schedule

7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, including some weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts. Depending on level, must work a minimum of 96 to 216 hours in a 6-week period.

About the Role

This position serves as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care OB Per Diem pool, caring for OB Progressive/Universal patients across the UK Healthcare Enterprise. Scope of work may rotate between Labor & Delivery, Mother Baby Unit, and Antepartum Unit. The Birthing Center team collaborates to provide patient-centered birth experiences, including care for laboring patients, scheduled inductions, cesarean sections, and high-risk antepartum or postpartum patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care, including assessment, documentation, planning, implementation, teaching, and evaluation of a nursing plan of care.
• Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
• Train and delegate duties to Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants).
• Adhere to University policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations.
• Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to enhance patient outcomes through communication and teamwork.
• Utilize the nursing process in conjunction with a patient-centered plan of care.

Requirements

• Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or active compact state RN license in good standing.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider, valid for at least 6 months after employment.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred.
• No prior experience required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently.
• Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
• Potential exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
