Nurse Assistant - PCU - Per Diem Days

Employment Type: Part time, Per Diem Tier II

Shift: 12 Hour Day Shift (7am-7:30pm)

Location: St. Mary Medical Center

Position Purpose

The primary objective of this position is to improve quality by providing direct, basic patient care activities under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include care and cleaning of specific equipment, stocking supplies and equipment, and transporting patients, supplies, and equipment.

Unit Overview

A 22-bed adult patient unit in a fast-paced cardiac step-down setting, offering potential for learning and advancing skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs direct and indirect patient care activities following RN instructions, physician orders, policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Obtains supplies from designated supply rooms to ensure patient rooms are ready for admission and cleared upon discharge/transfer.
• Demonstrates ability to feed patients, knowledge of dysphagia precautions, and calculating and recording intake and output.
• Demonstrates competence in collecting specimens (urine routine, clean catch, foley, stools for c-diff, etc.).
• Demonstrates competence with the application of heat and cold packs, ace wraps, slings, binders, protective devices, and orthopedic devices.
• Participates in hourly rounding programs to ensure patient safety, reduce harm, observe environmental safety, inform patients and families on precautions, turn and reposition patients, assist with toileting, and address personal needs.
• Appropriately seeks assistance from the Nurse Manager or designee for conflict resolution.

Requirements

• 72-hour minimum commitment per 6-week schedule.
• 3 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
• 1 Winter Holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s).
• 1 Spring/Summer Holiday (Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day).

Qualifications

• High School Graduate/Equivalent required.
• PA Nurse Aide Registry (CNA) OR completed a minimum of one semester of clinical rotations in an accredited nursing program or prior relevant work experience required.
• 1 year of relevant experience and/or relevant certification (EMT) is considered in lieu of required certification/clinical rotation.
• BLS certification required.
