Nurse Anesthetist per diem Faulkner

About the Role

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, part of Mass General Brigham, is seeking a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and immediate post-operative anesthesia care for patients undergoing surgical, medical, therapeutic, or diagnostic procedures. This role supports our mission of exceptional patient care, research, teaching, and community service within a high-performing, team-based environment.

Schedule

• Per Diem position with 1-2 shifts per month preferred
• 8, 10, and 12-hour day shifts available
• No call, holidays, or weekends required

Pay

$200.00 per hour per diem rate.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-anesthesia assessments and develop anesthetic care plans
• Assemble and manage specialized anesthesia equipment
• Apply, insert, and interpret data from anesthetic monitors
• Perform airway management and deliver general, regional, and monitored anesthetic care
• Manage induction, maintenance, and emergence of patients under anesthesia
• Provide immediate post-operative care and assessments in collaboration with physicians
• Request and interpret laboratory/diagnostic studies
• Administer pre-anesthetic medication, general anesthesia, adjuvant drugs, and regional anesthesia
• Utilize sedation techniques and manage cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Place and monitor invasive and noninvasive lines
• Manage mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance
• Administer blood, blood products, and plasma expanders
• Place peripheral intravenous and arterial catheters
• Provide acute and chronic pain therapy
• Select, administer, and reconcile medications in compliance with federal, state, and hospital policies
• Deliver post-anesthesia care and discharge planning
• Seek physician direction based on patient condition
• Adhere to I.C.A.R.E. Standards

Anesthesia care is provided in the main operating rooms (16 ORs) and designated "Out of OR" locations such as Radiology, Cardiac Cath Lab, CT, MRI, MRT, Endoscopy, and Angiography.

Requirements

• Master's Degree in Nurse Anesthesia (required)
• State licensure as a registered professional nurse
• Compliance with Massachusetts regulatory requirements for advanced practice nurse anesthesia
• Graduation from a Nurse Anesthesia education program accredited by the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or its predecessor
• Certification or recertification by the Council on Certification or recertification by the Council on Recertification or their predecessors
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• 0-1 year of experience as a CRNA (preferred)

Skills

• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, and pharmacology related to anesthesia
• Foreign language skills (desired for patient population)
• Clinical competence within the scope of practice standards set by the department
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based care setting
• Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with surgeons, staff, patients, and the public
• Clear communication and ability to establish effective working relationships
• Commitment to staying current with best practices in anesthesia
• Skilled in taking medical histories and interpreting findings
• Ability to maintain quality control standards
• Calm and effective response in emergency situations
• Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures

Working Conditions

Anesthesia care is delivered in diverse environments, including main operating rooms and various "Out of OR" locations (e.g., Radiology, Cardiac Cath Lab, CT, MRI, Endoscopy). These settings may involve:

• Exposure to electrical, mechanical, gas-driven, radiation, and laser-emitting equipment
• Varied physical environments: warm, cold, dimly lit, crowded, or spacious and well-lit
• Geographically dispersed locations, often far from the main ORs
