Nurse Administrator

About the Role

The Nurse Administrator supervises, leads, and coordinates nursing activities and personnel, ensuring patient care, staff relations, and efficiency of service. This role evaluates nursing operations, coordinates medical care, and works closely with the Medical Director for all aspects of nursing and medical care.

Responsibilities

• Oversee nursing operations to ensure alignment with the organization's mission, vision, core values, and strategic priorities.
• Conduct face-to-face evaluations for potential admissions, ensuring medical appropriateness and collaborating with providers for admission orders.
• Support the admission process with safety-focused interventions, including belongings checks and searches.
• Complete comprehensive nursing assessments and oversee the full medical admission process for each patient.
• Develop and initiate Nursing Care Plans to guide individualized, patient-centered care.
• Assess and respond to medical concerns, perform first aid, and determine the need for physician notification.
• Perform vital signs, basic evaluative procedures, tests, and blood draws to support ongoing patient monitoring.
• Respond to emergencies and provide on-call support to ensure patient safety and continuity of care 24/7.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and therapeutic environment in compliance with state and regulatory standards.
• Oversee the medication management system, including planning, storage, ordering, transcribing, administration, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Ensure all provider orders are carried out accurately and timely, and required medications are available within the facility.
• Verify informed consent for medications prior to the first dose and administer medications, including PRNs.
• Ensure documentation of medication effectiveness within required timelines and perform MAR audits for accuracy and compliance.
• Review medication errors and provide staff education to promote learning and risk reduction.
• Ensure compliance with narcotic diversion protocols and audit medication rooms for regulatory adherence.
• Collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to review patient care, needs, and treatment interventions.
• Communicate effectively with families and loved ones to support engagement and continuity of care.
• Establish professional, therapeutic rapport with patients to enhance trust and engagement in treatment.
• Manage patient medical needs, including scheduling appointments, coordinating referrals, and securing prior authorizations.
• Work collaboratively with Human Resources to build a strong, engaged, and high-performing nursing team.
• Participate in leadership meetings, performance improvement initiatives, risk reduction strategies, and staff retention efforts.
• Maintain knowledge of company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory standards (State, TJC/CARF, Code of Ethics).
• Ensure adherence to DBH compliance standards, including Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
• Perform chart audits to ensure documentation accuracy, completeness, and compliance with policy and regulatory requirements.
• Objectively and accurately document patient progress within required timelines.
• Monitor and maintain HR-related compliance, including employee documentation, incident reports, and internal personnel files.
• Provide direct supervision, leadership, and management to nursing staff, fostering accountability and professional development.
• Recruit, hire, onboard, and train nursing staff, ensuring competency validation and ongoing education.
• Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to nursing staff to support best practices, performance improvement, and clinical excellence.
• Conduct performance evaluations, manage disciplinary processes, and implement improvement plans in collaboration with Human Resources.
• Ensure adequate staffing coverage, including covering shifts as needed and meeting productivity expectations.
• Maintain organized operations and ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and alignment with organizational mission, vision, and values in all interactions.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support program needs and organizational success.

Residential Treatment Only

• Provide transportation services, including patient transportation and supervision for medical appointments (must be pre-qualified to drive a company vehicle).

Substance and Mental Health Use Disorder Division

• Monitor CIWA/COW scores for patients on detoxification protocols.
• Knowledge of detoxification medication, withdrawal symptoms, and medical complications that can occur in detox.
• Provide assistance to Utilization Review in communicating pertinent nursing information.

Eating Disorder Division

• Sit with patients for a minimum of one meal or snack per week, or as needed to cover the program schedule.
• Work during meal periods to provide supervision and support to patients.
• Refrain from comments and actions that directly contradict the CFD Clinical Model and Dietary CARE model.
• Full adherence to the Center for Discovery policies and procedures.
• Maintain NG Tube and administer bolus feeds, where applicable.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved nursing program with a current RN licensure from an appropriate state licensing board.
• Preferred: Experience as a staff nurse, preferably in chemical dependency, eating disorders, and/or behavioral health.
• Current Basic Life Support (CPR and First Aid) certification.
• Must obtain and maintain CPI certification within 90 days of hire.
• Must obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid, along with ServSafe certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current Driver’s License in good standing.
• Knowledge of industry standards: organization, theory, principles, research processes, accreditation, and regulatory standards.
• Ability to assess clinical care requirements based on nursing principles and scope of practice.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of substance use disorders, addiction, eating disorders, and behavioral health.
• Familiarity with behavior change, recovery models, and treatment methods.
• Knowledge of medications, indications, dosage ranges, side effects, and potential toxicity.

Eating Disorder Division

• Obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire.

Schedule

Full-time: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays 7am-7pm with on-call duties as needed.
