Nuclear Security Forces Support Specialist (SME Level III)
Position Overview
The Nuclear Security Forces Support Specialist will support HQ Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) in providing System Engineering Support (SES) services for ICBM and helicopter operations.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide technical input and support development activities to ensure effectiveness of Sentinel security concepts and programs.
- Support periodic reviews, development tests, and evaluations.
- Support development and implementation of Battlespace Awareness initiatives throughout AFGSC nuclear operations.
- Support and monitor progress of other Battlespace Awareness initiatives ongoing by USSTRATCOM, AF/A4S and AFGSC.
- Provide technical input and support development activities for the proposed Weapons Storage Facility (WSF) MILCON Plan (WMP), the next-generation WSA construct.
- Support periodic design reviews, development tests, and evaluations.
- Aid in the development of AFGSC guidance revisions and clarifications for DoD/AF Nuclear Security Manual and AFGSC Supplement.
- Participate in revision activities to DoD/AF/AFGSC nuclear security guidance.
- Support development/implementation of the Nuclear Surety Deviation Process, an initiative by AF Safety Center (AFSEC) to consolidate all nuclear surety deviations and develop a robust risk management tool for use by MAJCOM/CCs and for presentation to CSAF.
- Review Facility Engineering Changes.
- Review proposed Master Configuration Lists (MCLs) and Facility Change Initiation Requests (FCIRs) for activities in the ICBM complex.
- Review proposed activities for impact to unit SF personnel and/or security systems.
- Provide way-ahead for potential impacts to nuclear security.
- Serve as Nuclear Surety Technical Advisor.
- Support the Nuclear Weapons System Safety Group (NWSSG), ICBM Nuclear Surety Working Group (NSWG), Sentinel NSWG, and AFGSC Nuclear Surety Council (NSC).
- Support AFGSC/A3S, National Security Agency (NSA)-designated Controlling Authority, on COMSEC-related issues, including but not limited to: respond to COMSEC incidents; prepare and submit annual resupply memoranda, ensure sustainability of existing devices, and work with NSA and CPSD to ensure successful development of next-generation system.
- Develop and validate the AFGSC Strategic Security Plan (SSP).
- Ensure the SSP includes current nuclear security guidance and appropriately addresses nuclear security deviations.
- Ensure AFGSC nuclear security programs are accurately represented in the final product.
- Provide technical input and support development activities to ensure effectiveness of Weapons Storage Areas (WSAs) Kirtland Underground Munitions Maintenance and Storage Complex (KUMMSC), bomber generation/dispersal, Prime Nuclear Airlift Force (PNAF), Nuclear Command, Control & Communications (NC3), security plans and security improvement programs.
- Support periodic design reviews, development tests, and evaluations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a bachelor’s degree.
- Must possess a Top Secret clearance.
- Must be eligible for SCI clearance.
Desired Qualifications
- At least 8 years of ICBM experience.
- At least 8 years of headquarters (e.g., MAJCOM, NAF, Joint, etc.) staff experience.
- At least 8 years of USAF Nuclear Security Program experience.
