About the role

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist at St. David's North Austin Medical Center produces images in accordance with ARRT and NMTCB standards. They perform within the guidelines set by the Bureau of Radiation Control, Hospital Policies and Procedures Manual, and the Radioactive Materials License. This position requires adherence to radiation safety practices and maintaining patient safety, privacy, and dignity.

Responsibilities

  • Produces scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric.
  • Adjusts imaging protocols based on age or disease conditions.
  • Operates all Nuclear Medicine cameras, computers, and related equipment.
  • Completes quality scans in a timely manner, effectively organizing and prioritizing workflow.
  • Modifies positioning and scanning factors for trauma, acute, and challenging patients.
  • Communicates findings to Radiologists and explains procedures to patients and their families.
  • Ensures compliance with radiation safety practices and minimizes radiation exposure.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an educational program in radiology accredited by JRCERT or a graduate of an AMA-approved program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Two to three years of previous experience as a Radiologic Tech.
  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (CNMT) or Registered Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, post-primary certification in Computed Tomography (ARRT (NM)).
  • BLS certification as per SDH policy.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Radiologic Technology – preferred.
  • Knowledge of human structure and functions, patient care, positioning, principles of nuclear medicine, radiation protection, and specialized techniques.
  • Professional judgment in performance of services and a demeanor complementary to medical ethics.
  • Experience providing patient-specific care standards and following service excellence standards for high patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to explain procedures to patients and family members in understandable terms.

Skills

  • Proficiency in scanning trauma, acute, and challenging patients.
  • Knowledge of disease processes and ability to adequately image and communicate findings to Radiologists.
  • Techniques to minimize radiation exposure by adhering to the ALARA program.
