Responsibilities
- Plant Operator I:
- Performs routine monitoring of wastewater unit processes and support systems equipment.
- Performs and assists with control adjustments to unit process variables to maintain optimal performance.
- Follows Standard Operating Procedures and provides feedback for support systems equipment and unit processes.
- Follow established operational reporting lines in all operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures to ensure clear communication, accountability, and efficient decision-making.
- Performs equipment inspections and evaluations. Places equipment in and out of service.
- Performs adjustments to process equipment and facility systems.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance tasks and ensures housekeeping standards are met.
- Performs Lock Out Tag Out on out-of-service equipment.
- Provides input for the creation and revision of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Demonstrates continued progression in operator training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Plant Operator II:
- Participation in Metro’s On-Job Training (OJT) program, including enrollment and completion of assigned curriculum.
- Performs monitoring of wastewater unit processes and support systems equipment.
- Provides and validates control adjustments to unit process variables to maintain optimal performance.
- Assists with the training of junior operators.
- Performs field measurements, observations, and analyses required for plant monitoring.
- Performs and assists with the development of Standard Operating Procedures for support systems equipment and unit processes.
- Follow established operational reporting lines in all operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures to ensure clear communication, accountability, and efficient decision-making.
- Follow established operational reporting lines when reporting incidents, requesting resources, addressing interdepartmental concerns, initiating non-routine tasks or changes to standard operating procedures.
- Conducts routine equipment inspections and evaluations, places equipment in and out of service.
- Optimize adjustments to process equipment and facility systems. Validate conditions and operations.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance tasks, identifies and ensures housekeeping standards are met.
- Performs flushing’s and valve exercising preventative maintenance.
- Performs and ensures proper Lock Out Tag Out on out-of-service equipment.
- Demonstrates continued progression in operator training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Plant Operator I:
- Knowledge of: Plant Operator I Participation in Metro’s Wastewater Treatment Operations Staff Training Program, including enrollment and completion of assigned curriculum.
- Knowledge Of: Monitoring systems/equipment, Standard Operating Procedures, Basic Equipment inspections and maintenance, Arithmetic, reading, writing, Safety practices, SCADA Systems, Basic layout of utility feeds to a treatment facility, MS Office software.
- Skilled at: Troubleshooting operational issues, Applying SOPs and field data to optimize processes, Communicating and following direction, Following instructions, policies and procedures, Working effectively in a team environment, Using documentation and monitoring systems, Managing disagreements and de-escalating conflict.
- Ability to: Analyze data and communicate them as necessary, Read and follow technical manuals, Assist new operators, Perform math operations with decimals and fractions, Conduct accurate field observations and sampling, Learn new tools and procedures, Remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Education, Certifications, and Licenses: High School diploma or GED. Valid and current driver’s license. Colorado Class D Wastewater Treatment Operator or ability to attain it through reciprocity.
- Plant Operator II:
- Knowledge Of: Complex Monitoring systems/equipment, Standard Operating Procedures, MOP’s, Routine Equipment inspections and maintenance, Wastewater treatment principles, Safety practices and standards, SCADA Systems, Basic layout of utility feeds to treatment facility, MS Office software.
- Skilled at: Wastewater treatment operations, Independently troubleshooting operational issues, Applying SOPs and field data to optimize processes, Communicating clearly and following instructions, Working effectively in a team environment, Providing training to new operators, Managing disagreements and de-escalating conflict, Making operations decisions based on utilizing operational documentation and diverse monitoring systems.
- Ability to: Analyze data and trends: take corrective measures, Read and follow technical manuals and procedures, Perform advanced mathematics and apply to operations, Conduct accurate field observations and sampling, Learn new tools and procedures, Provide insight and guidance and promote team success, Remain calm and professional under pressure, Respond to plant emergencies.
- Education, Certifications, and Licenses: High School diploma or GED. Valid Drivers license. Colorado Class B Wastewater Operator Certification or ability to attain it through reciprocity.

Pay
Pay ranges from $28.96 to $40.40 hourly for Plant Operator I and from $33.78 to $47.13 hourly for Plant Operator II.
Schedule
This position is a Night Shift position working a rotating schedule. New hires assigned to the night shift receive a 25% shift differential.
