About the Role

The Department of Finance, Financial Planning, and Insurance at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Financial Planning at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will primarily teach Financial Planning and have research interests in Financial Planning and related fields. The new hire is expected to be actively involved in the CFP Board-registered financial planning program.

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department for recommending tenure and promotion.

Normal teaching load is twelve hours per week; however, a 9-hour load is normally assigned to faculty who are actively engaged in research and publication to support their professional activities (SA status according to the AACSB standards).

Responsibilities

• Teach Financial Planning courses (both in-person and online).
• Maintain weekly office hours.
• Attend faculty meetings and participate in assessment of student learning.
• Engage in service to the department, college, and university.
• Conduct and publish original research in finance or financial planning.
• Mentor students and contribute to a student-centered learning environment.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Financial Planning or related field (e.g., Finance, Personal Finance, or a field with demonstrated connection to financial planning or finance) from an accredited institution.
• Evidence of, or clear potential for, conducting and publishing original research on finance or financial planning.
• Evidence of, or clear potential for, excellence in university-level teaching in financial planning-related areas.

About the Department

The Department of Finance, Financial Planning, and Insurance offers a comprehensive curriculum, including a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with specializations in Financial Analysis, Financial Planning, and Risk Management and Insurance, alongside a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. The department serves over 1,000 students and fosters student engagement through initiatives like the student-centered investment funds, managed by undergraduates.

The department consists of 13 full-time tenure-track faculty members dedicated to advancing research and delivering a comprehensive curriculum. Faculty are active scholars with publications in leading journals, including Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Risk and Insurance, and Journal of Accounting Research.

Pay

$140,000 to $158,000 (dependent upon qualifications).
