About the role

The University of Michigan Health – Sparrow is seeking an enthusiastic Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for its Gynecologic Oncology team. Located in Lansing, MI, this role provides clinical care and patient education for adult gynecological patients under the clinical guidance and supervision of the physician.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers professional services to the Oncology service’s patients within the limits of knowledge, experience, and within the scope of practice under the licensure of the profession.
  • Ensures accurate and timely history and physical assessments, including completion of patient chart, internal admission notes, consults, daily progress notes and discharge summaries on the service’s patients in the Hospital, the Outpatient Clinic, and/or the Satellite Clinics as assigned.
  • Ensures accurate and thorough patient and family instructions are provided throughout the care of the patient.
  • Outpatient GYN Oncology: serves as patient escort for GYN Oncologist patients; provides professional services to the GYN patient population through the GYN Oncology PA/NP Clinic and as needed; performs core specialized diagnostic, therapeutic and other procedures as assigned.
  • Inpatient Oncology Services: when assigned, supports the service through daily rounds, participation in patient care conferences, and other activities related to the treatment of the service’s inpatient population.
  • Oncology outreach: when assigned, provides professional services at outreach locations as needed.
  • Supports and participates in research activities, quality of care initiatives, and educational programs as assigned; initiates and pursues self-development activities related to the service; promotes understanding of research findings for staff, students, and peers.
  • Serves as a role model for consistent demonstration of Sparrow’s Behavioral Standards of Performance (ICARE).

Requirements

  • Demonstrates knowledge and maintains and respects patient right to privacy by following the HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to ICARE values and standards of behavior (Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence).
  • Communicates with patients, families, and customers using AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank).
  • Works in a safe manner and promptly reports any hazards identified in the work environment or related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Graduate of an approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Current BCLS
  • Current State of Michigan APP Certification (NP or PA)
  • Successful completion of hospital accreditation
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians and other caregivers; Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/ social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area.
