About the role
The position is under the general direction of the building principal or the early learning program manager, and with assistance from appropriate staff personnel. He/she arranges and fosters a developmentally appropriate and effective learning environment; uses designated curriculum and embedded or identified assessments to choose appropriate learning materials, and plans developmentally appropriate individualized lessons; establishes learning objectives and standards based upon District guidelines; provides instruction, counsels, disciplines, and provides supervision to meet the individual needs of assigned students; evaluates student performance and progress.
Essential Functions
- Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning, development and culture of the children enrolled;
- Plans an instructional program designed to meet individual student needs, while affording opportunities to work in small and large groups;
- Prepares developmentally appropriate lesson plans for both typically developing and special needs or at risk children.
- Uses necessary and developmentally appropriate instructional methods and materials which are age appropriate for the students and aligns learning activities with program expectations;
- Implements established program or curriculum objectives;
- Attends in-service training and continues professional growth through studies, implementing newly learned skills and instructional practices, ensuring use of updated knowledge of development and methods and techniques for instruction which promote student success.
- Establishes classroom goals and objectives, in conformance with courses of study specified by State and School District statutes, regulations and guidelines;
- Evaluates and records student progress;
- Prepares reports for parents or guardians.
- Creates, establishes and implements, in a positive and supportive manner, age appropriate classroom policies and procedures governing behavior and conduct;
- Provides guidance, counseling, and discipline in ways that support children to develop self direction and control meeting standards of achievement and conduct;
- Makes referrals for assistance where appropriate.
- Uses assessment to gather data and interprets data to inform planning and student progress;
- Writes and submits reports for administrative purposes.
- Confers and builds relationships with parents or guardians, and other staff, maintaining an open positive relationship and provide guidance and evaluation, to support student achievement.
- Directs the activities of assigned personnel.
- Attends or participates in required staff meetings, professional development and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional achievement.
- Serves on staff committees as required.
