Leschi Elementary - Preschool Teacher - 1.0 FTE

Under the general direction of the building principal or the early learning program manager, and with assistance from appropriate staff personnel, you will arrange and foster a developmentally appropriate and effective learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning, development, and culture of enrolled children; plans an instructional program designed to meet individual student needs, including opportunities for small and large group work; prepares developmentally appropriate lesson plans for both typically developing and special needs or at-risk children. (25% of time)
• Uses developmentally appropriate instructional methods and materials aligned with program expectations; implements established program or curriculum objectives; attends in-service training and continues professional growth. (25% of time)
• Establishes classroom goals and objectives in conformance with state and district guidelines; evaluates and records student progress; prepares reports for parents or guardians. (20% of time)
• Creates, establishes, and implements age-appropriate classroom policies and procedures governing behavior and conduct; provides guidance, counseling, and discipline to support student self-direction and achievement. (10% of time)
• Uses assessment data to inform planning and student progress; writes and submits administrative reports. (5% of time)
• Confers and builds relationships with parents, guardians, and staff to support student achievement. (5% of time)
• Directs the activities of assigned personnel. (5% of time)
• Attends required staff meetings, professional development, and other activities to accomplish position objectives. (5% of time)
• Participates in activities to enhance personal and professional skills; performs related tasks consistent with the scope of the position.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with knowledge of early learning and development and academic preparation or professional experience with children birth through 3rd grade.
• Experience teaching culturally, racially, and economically diverse young children (PreK) in an urban school system.
• Experience providing PreK-3rd grade instruction, working with English language learners and bilingual students, and building relationships with families.
• Criminal justice fingerprinting and background check clearance.

Benefits

Eligibility for benefits is determined by the number of hours worked during the school year (September 1 through August 31). Employees scheduled to work 630 hours or more in a year are eligible for benefits.
