About the role
The Controller is a key finance leader responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting operations, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will help guide the financial health of a large, complex nonprofit healthcare organization while partnering closely with executive, operational, and clinical leaders.
Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, month-end and year-end close, and preparation of accurate GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Oversee regulatory reporting, annual audits, Medicare cost reports, Form 990 reporting, internal controls, and compliance with federal, state, and nonprofit healthcare accounting requirements.
- Partner with executive leadership to support budgeting, financial planning, cash flow forecasting, variance analysis, inventory accounting, and organizational financial performance.
- Develop, mentor, and lead the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and exceptional service.
- Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and enhancements to financial systems, reporting capabilities, and accounting workflows.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operational, clinical, supply chain, and technology teams to ensure accurate financial data and support informed organizational decision-making.
Requirements
- Strong technical accounting expertise, including GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, audits, and nonprofit accounting principles.
- Experience leading accounting operations within a nonprofit, healthcare, or other highly regulated and complex organizational environment.
- Demonstrated success managing financial reporting, regulatory compliance, external audits, and process improvement initiatives.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor teams, build strong cross-functional relationships, and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience with ERP or enterprise financial systems, advanced financial analysis, and identifying opportunities to improve accounting operations.
Benefits
