Nonprofit Controller
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Controller will serve as a key financial leader responsible for overseeing accounting operations, grants compliance, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit activities for a growing nonprofit organization. This role will partner closely with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and Finance Committee to strengthen financial infrastructure, ensure compliance with federal and foundation funding requirements, and support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and adaptable nonprofit finance leader who enjoys building systems, mentoring teams, and helping organizations scale effectively.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead all accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and month-end close activities
- Oversee grant accounting, compliance, reporting, and cost allocation processes across federal, state, and foundation-funded programs
- Manage and mentor accounting and grants staff while building scalable financial systems and procedures
- Direct the annual Single Audit process, Form 990 preparation, and coordination with external auditors
- Evaluate and implement process improvements that strengthen internal controls, compliance, and organizational efficiency
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated nonprofit accounting and finance leadership experience, preferably at the Controller level
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), grant compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Experience overseeing audits, financial controls, and complex funding environments with multiple revenue streams
- Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and develop accounting and grants management professionals
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate financial information for non-finance stakeholders
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$100,000–$120,000 salary range, with potential flexibility for highly qualified candidates
