About the role
NPFM is a fully remote, paperless team of 12, including accountants, data service specialists, and our CPA founder. The opportunity involves managing the day-to-day financial operations for a portfolio of nonprofit clients.
Responsibilities
- Manage monthly and quarterly close processes, including reconciliations and journal entries
- Prepare financial statements and funder-specific reports
- Track restricted funding and grant allocations
- Review transactional data (e.g., payroll, accounts payable) entered by client or support staff
- Manage annual audit, 990, and 1099 preparation, and assist with annual budgeting
- Work with team members to strengthen systems and procedures and address issues as they arise
- Communicate with clients through video, email, and phone, and address general accounting requests as they arise
Requirements
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- At least four years of experience with nonprofit accounting
- Confidently manages monthly financial operations for multiple clients, including reconciliations, budgeting, and reporting
- Communicates clearly and respectfully in writing and in conversations with clients and colleagues
- Thrives in a fully remote environment and is highly organized, self-motivated, and responsive
- Curious, systems-minded, and proactive about improving processes and catching errors
- Comfortable with tools like Excel and nonprofit accounting software, and is open to learning new platforms (we use MIP Fund Accounting)
- Understands funder requirements and restricted funding
- Believes that financial work can be both rigorous and human-centered
