Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineer – Level 3 or Level 4 to join our team in Clearfield, UT. The Principal Non-Destructive Testing Engineer is responsible for the inspection of rocket motors, composite aerospace components, and other energetic and non-energetic articles. This position develops and implements unique nondestructive inspection techniques, methods, and procedures, working with design, project, and quality engineers to select and implement the best NDT method to ensure product quality at the lowest cost.

Responsibilities

• Review engineering designs and drawings, providing correct NDT method descriptions for critical defect size and material type.
• Prepare inspection documentation to identify test parameters and requirements.
• Perform technical audits of NDT personnel in the field.
• Support production in using machines and assist maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
• Participate in R&D programs to improve system capabilities and bring new technology into projects.
• Develop and produce formal customer reports containing recommendations, computer-generated graphics, plots, tables, summaries, and comparisons.
• Maintain and archive electronic and hard-copy inspection data and reports.
• Other duties as assigned.

This position is contingent upon obtaining final clearances and program access within a reasonable period.

Requirements

Level 3

• Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience. Will accept 9 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
• Minimum of one Level 3 certification in accordance with NAS 410 in Eddy Current (ET), Ultrasonic (UT), or Radiography (RT). Records of certification and experience are required.
• Required to obtain additional Level 3 certification to NAS 410 in Eddy Current (ET), Magnetic Particle (MT), Ultrasonic (UT), Radiography (RT), or Dye Penetrant (PT).
• Cross-train in other NDT methods.
• Must pass the 20/25 Snellen or Jaeger No. 1 vision test for NAS 410 certification.

Level 4

• Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 6 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 4 years of professional experience. Will accept 12 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
• Holding for at least 2 years one Level 3 certification in accordance with NAS 410 in Eddy Current (ET), Ultrasonic (UT), or Radiography (RT). Records of certification and experience are required.
• Required to obtain additional Level 3 certification to NAS 410 in Eddy Current (ET), Magnetic Particle (MT), Ultrasonic (UT), Radiography (RT), or Dye Penetrant (PT).
• Cross-train in other NDT methods.
• Must pass the 20/25 Snellen or Jaeger No. 1 vision test for NAS 410 certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software.
• Skilled in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to perform at a high level with minimal supervision, multitask, and act as a self-starter.
• Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts and Six Sigma tools.
• Background in NDT of aerospace products.
• Experience investigating, performing root cause analysis, and recommending corrective measures.

Pay

Primary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 – $134,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 – $167,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and current market conditions when determining base salary offers. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
