Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive instruction on the theory and practice of phlebotomy, including venipuncture, capillary collection, and specimen handling.
- This includes teaching relevant anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and basic laboratory procedures.
- Supervise and guide students during hands-on practice in a lab setting.
- Demonstrate and ensure students master proper techniques for blood collection, patient identification, infection control, and safety protocols.
Qualifications
- Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of recent, hands-on clinical experience as a phlebotomist or in a related healthcare role (e.g., Medical Assistant, RN, LPN).
- Certification: Current and valid phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization such as the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate degree or higher in a healthcare-related field is often preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication, instructional, and classroom management skills. The ability to teach and motivate adult learners with varying skill levels is crucial.
- Background Clearances: Must be able to obtain and maintain current PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Background Check, and PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
