Node.js Tech Lead in Hybrid, Plano, TX

About the role

Hands-on technical lead role with primary focus (60–70%) on backend (Node.js/TypeScript) and secondary focus (30–40%) on frontend (React/TypeScript). Responsible for setting technical direction, defining architecture, and leading engineering efforts for key strategic initiatives. Requires strong communication skills and on-site (hybrid) presence in Plano, TX.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead developer and technical authority for assigned initiative(s).
• Design resilient, cloud-native system architectures and define technical roadmaps.
• Decompose complex/ambiguous problems into actionable technical plans.
• Define, document, and negotiate service/API contracts with partner teams.
• Ensure solutions meet enterprise standards (security, resiliency, maintainability).
• Promote security-first mindset in all technical decisions.
• Remain heavily hands-on in backend coding (Node.js, TypeScript); support frontend/UI work as needed (React).
• Review code and uphold engineering best practices and quality across frontend and backend.
• Collaborate with product teams, stakeholders, and partner teams to shape priorities and technical scope.
• Support complex problem-solving across the stack.
• Inform team composition and guide scaling as initiatives grow.

Requirements

• Expert-level TypeScript and Node.js (backend/API development).
• Working experience with React (frontend/UI).
• Hands-on AWS experience (Lambda, ECS, S3).
• Practical experience with DynamoDB.
• Solid understanding of authentication/authorization (JWT, OAuth).

Skills

• Support-level Java and/or Angular experience.
• Experience with GraphQL, Kong, Lambda Authorizers, Glue, additional databases.
• Experience with application migrations (Java → Node.js/TypeScript).
• Familiarity with GitHub Actions, security, and monitoring tools.
