Main Purpose Of Job

The Deputy Director is a Full-Time exempt position (GOVEX) and serves at the will of the Governor reporting directly to the Cabinet Secretary-Designee & State CIO. The selected individual will support the Secretary as the senior member of DoIT staff who will conduct leadership meetings and facilitate the implementation of the strategy and vision of the Secretary. The deputy secretary will have direct reports, augment the bandwidth of the Secretary, and mitigate relative weaknesses in the areas such as public administration with complementary strengths.

Position Duties

  • Represent the Secretary and the department by participating in forums such as project Executive Steering Committees (ESC), community and professional groups, legislative committees, interaction with key customers including state agency CIOs, and with strategic vendors.
  • Manage high-level directors including hiring and supervising staff for DoIT as authorized by the New Mexico State Personnel Board Rules and Regulations.
  • Champion strategic projects such as development of a quality management system that includes document control systems, creation and monitoring of key success indicators and metrics and which promotes consistent service delivery per service level agreements and promotes continuous improvement.
  • Advocate to promote agency goals to and from the Governor’s office, the legislature, and peer agencies.
  • Collaborate with the Secretary and key leadership to develop strategies to meet the mission of the agency and propose project and initiatives to meet those objectives.
  • Defend alternative viewpoints and processes to promote good decision making within DoIT and supporting decisions when made.

Minimum Education Or General Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Management of Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, Leadership, etc.) from an accredited college or university.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years senior management experience to include: budget and accounting management, personnel management, program management, policy development and implementation public relations, outreach, and advocacy.
  • Prior knowledge of state, local, or federal government and with 5 years related experience in I.T.

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
