Night Crew Lead

About the Role

Assists the Grocery Manager in directing the operation of the grocery department, including supervising and training personnel on the night crew. Supervises and participates in all night crew activities to maximize sales, earnings, and customer satisfaction. Reports incidents requiring discipline to the Grocery Manager and Store Director, and communicates night crew activities to them.

Responsibilities

• Trains and supervises associates in night crew activities, policies, and procedures.
• Oversees total store operations on the night crew as directed by the Store Director.
• Maintains product quality by rotating, stocking, facing products, discarding out-of-code or spoiled items, and cleaning shelves.
• Assists in ordering, receiving, storing, stocking, inventory control, and building displays.
• Operates equipment such as hand trucks, six-wheel carts, pallet jacks, and ladders.
• Maintains a safe, secure, and sanitary working environment.
• Assists in planning regular and seasonal merchandise requirements and special sales needs.
• Ensures cost, quality, and inventory levels by verifying orders, auditing product cases, and completing necessary forms accurately.
• Implements company and division operating and merchandising policies, controls shrink, and prevents damage or sale of unsafe products.
• Encourages customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly, and courteous service.
• Handles vendor relations and implements company loss prevention and security policies during after-hours.
• Performs other duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy, safety, and integrity.

Requirements

• Friendly, courteous, and able to take initiative while maintaining composure with customers, co-workers, and vendors.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently without supervision, especially when the store is closed.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Must stand and walk for long periods, frequently reaching, lifting, stacking, and maneuvering objects up to 80 lbs.
• Ability to push or pull fully loaded hand trucks, six-wheel carts, or pallet jacks, and climb ladders.
• Mental alertness to ensure safe and accurate completion of repetitious tasks.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics, inventory control, storage, merchandising, and shipping/receiving procedures.
• Mental dexterity and good eye-hand coordination for safe repetitious movements.
• Must comply with company grooming standards and dress code.
• Ability to implement emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions.

Schedule

• Required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Scheduled hours will vary.
• Must be able to work with little supervision and maintain regular attendance.
• Ability to cover for various positions throughout the store.

Work Environment

• Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
• Occasional exposure to temperatures of 28°F in coolers and -20°F in freezers.
• Temperature-controlled store environment with varying temperatures in loading and receiving areas.
• Occasional exposure to outdoor environments with varying temperatures.

Pay

The pay range is $19.38 to $26.15 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates vary based on location, experience, qualifications, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
