About the role

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is seeking a Night Child Care Assistant to monitor one unit of youth with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities (ages 5‑13) during sleeping hours in a Residential Treatment Center, ensuring youth safety and responding to any issues. St. Vincent’s Villa provides comprehensive residential treatment for children ages 5‑13 whose behavioral and emotional needs have not responded to community‑based interventions. The position includes six weeks of hands‑on training for full‑time staff to complete TCI and CARE certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety and welfare of youth during sleeping hours by remaining alert, conducting active supervision, and responding promptly to concerns or emergencies, resulting in a secure and stable overnight environment.
  • Responsible for leading and executing safe evacuation of youth during emergencies or drills in accordance with agency protocols.
  • Conducts and documents visual inspections of each child in the bedroom area at least every 15 minutes, or more frequently as required, ensuring continuous supervision and compliance with safety standards.
  • Implements prescribed nighttime treatment interventions (e.g., special isolation procedures, suicide precautions, scheduled wake‑ups) with accuracy and vigilance to support individual treatment plans and safeguard youth well‑being.
  • Ensures all interactions align with agency policy, Cornell University’s CARE (Children and Residential Experiences) model, and Trauma‑Informed Care (TIC) principles, promoting a respectful, therapeutic, and supportive environment.
  • Implements individualized team behavior support plans consistently to promote stability and behavioral progress. In response to disruptive behaviors, applies appropriate crisis intervention strategies — including de‑escalation techniques and, when necessary, approved physical restraint — in accordance with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) standards to maintain safety.
  • Immediately reports behavioral concerns to the Night Supervisor and communicates all medical complaints to both the Night Supervisor and Health Office staff, ensuring timely intervention and coordinated care.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation, including completing the Night Monitor Log every 15 minutes (or as directed), recording supervisory or medical communications, and documenting youth observations to ensure regulatory compliance and continuity of care across shifts.
  • Performs additional operational duties, including housekeeping and laundry tasks
