About the role

The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita State University is seeking a Dimensional Metrologist II. This position is located at the Advanced Machining and Prototyping (AMP) lab in Park City, KS.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks related to metrology measurements and analysis, including research and data collection, to support production.
  • Produce accurate and repeatable measurement of parts and tools.
  • Prepare inspection plans and schedules inspection tasks.
  • Maintain and track metrology equipment and/or automation.
  • Write and run advanced programs for metrology equipment.
  • Provide reports for inspected parts; assembles First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and assistance to junior metrology engineers.
  • Research new technologies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent by date of hire
  • Five (5) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Ability to learn additional functions of metrology, including portable, stationary, and automation.
  • Demonstrated advanced understanding of metrology concepts and practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of metrology software.
  • Ability to work productively with a variety of customers to understand their needs and constraints.
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, organize tasks, and to think critically.
  • Proficient in using hand gauges such as micrometers, calipers, and bore gages.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or related field of study
  • Five (5) years Portable Metrology experience; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Skills

  • Ability to learn additional functions of metrology, including portable, stationary, and automation.
  • Demonstrated advanced understanding of metrology concepts and practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of metrology software.

Schedule

Typical work schedule: 8am – 5pm Monday – Friday; occasional evenings and weekends may be required as needed. Work is performed onsite and in-person.
