NEWSROOM FELLOW

Responsibilities

• Find and gather information—words, images, and video—for the newspaper’s digital and social platforms.
• Write news and feature stories and scripts.
• Take photographs and video as assigned and through initiative; process digital photo and video files.
• Produce informative news and feature stories using multimedia formats.
• Create multimedia updates for the website and social media.
• Meet technical standards for composition, lighting, and visual impact.
• Meet deadlines.
• Brainstorm and collaborate on story ideas with other media staff.
• Monitor ongoing news and issues.
• Develop sources essential to news and feature development.
• Adhere to policy and journalistic ethics.
• Recommend story, photo, and video ideas.
• Actively participate in the Great Game of Business.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Commitment to quality and service.
• Team-oriented with a positive representation of the media company and journalism profession.
• Maintains a valid driver’s license.

Skills

• Reporting, interviewing, writing, photography, and video recording.
• Typing, communicating, meeting deadlines, planning, and organizing.
• Experience in video/photo essay techniques.
• Effective use of photo and video equipment and editing under a wide range of conditions.
• Ability to be productive and accurate on deadline.

Requirements

• High school diploma plus enrollment in an accredited college or university.
• Newspaper or related media/communications experience.
