About the role

We’re looking for a Newsletter Editor who thrives in an adaptable work environment and sees the direct impact of their work. As we build upon our growing network of cities, you’ll help establish the most relevant modern local media brand by planning, writing, editing, and publishing the most engaging daily newsletter about Raleigh, NC.

Responsibilities

• Plan, write, edit, and publish a daily newsletter and website content focused on Raleigh, NC.
• Collaborate regularly with an Audience Editor and other editorial team members.
• Assist in writing sponsored content relevant to your market.
• Execute engagement tactics, including surveys, polls, and questions to activate the audience.
• Brainstorm and deliver hyper-local, timely original content.
• Produce brief, daily lead stories reflecting breaking news while creating and maintaining local features and city guides.
• Curate news, lifestyle, and events-based content from local outlets and social influencers, summarizing into short-form original content.
• Distill important points of larger stories to keep readers informed through our unique curation model.
• Discover exceptional content before it goes mainstream.
• Maintain an unbiased, objective approach to content creation.
• Deliver publish-ready, error-free content in a simple, conversational format.
• Act as an informed and engaged citizen by attending community events and staying updated on local news.
• Publicly represent the brand as a role model of the company’s core values.
• Occasionally work outside typical hours to cover breaking news, with most content creation during standard business hours.
• Seek out new media trends and technology to help innovate the business.
• Take ownership of your content and sign your name to the newsletter daily.

Requirements

• Strong and diverse knowledge of content relevant to growing communities.
• Established community and editorial relationships.
• Track record of success in digital media.
• Passion for local cities, excellent news judgment, curiosity, and interest in innovative media.
• Ability to identify and produce relevant content in a deadline-driven environment.
• Interest in escaping traditional media models and exploring new story formats.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Driven, confident, adaptable, passionate, and spirited personal brand.
• Ability to innovate and think creatively.
• Deep understanding of your audience and what they want to engage with.
• Willingness to learn new technology, including email campaign management, data, analytics, and CMS.
• Enthusiastic team player with a curious mindset.
