Newscast Director
FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full-power broadcast television stations in the U.S., including stations in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas. The portfolio includes 18 FOX Network affiliates and produces approximately 1,200 hours of local news weekly. FOX 29 is a non-traditional news station focused on vibrant energy, authentic storytelling, and challenging the status quo.
About the role
We are seeking a creative, experienced Newscast Director to lead the production and execution of all on-air newscasts, original programming, and other on-air productions. This role is a key collaborative voice, working closely with producers and on-air talent to bring the vision of our broadcasts to life.
Responsibilities
- Direct and technical direct live, fast-paced newscasts and original programming using cutting-edge production automation technology.
- Collaborate with producers and talent to elevate visual storytelling and pacing in a non-traditional format.
- Coordinate and create selected on-air graphics to enhance production value.
- Lead the control room crew and studio personnel to ensure seamless, high-quality broadcasts.
- Stay calm and focused under intense deadline pressure, making split-second decisions while maintaining attention to detail.
- Adapt and assist with other production duties as assigned to support the station's goals.
Requirements
- Minimum 2–3 years of control room experience.
- Ideal candidate: 2+ years of directing experience in a top 20 market, or 3+ years in smaller markets.
- Ability to direct—or quickly learn to direct—using production automation. Knowledge of Sony ELC, Chyron, and Tricaster is a plus.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate creative visions clearly.
- Flexible schedule with availability to support various shifts in a 24/7 news environment.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Sensitivity to deadlines, meticulous attention to detail, and excitement to work outside traditional news formats.
Pay
The pay rate for this role is $34.30 per hour, with the final offer dependent on education, skills, experience, and location.
