About the Role

An NBC-owned station serving the San Francisco Bay Area is hiring a freelance News Writer/Producer to join its newsroom. The station covers one of the country's most dynamic local news markets across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms. This is an on-site freelance role for an experienced broadcast journalist who can write and produce news content across multiple platforms, respond quickly to breaking news, and contribute story ideas to daily coverage. The writer/producer will partner with newsroom teams to shape compelling, audience-focused content for newscasts and streaming. The schedule is flexible but includes early mornings, nights, weekends, and breaking news coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience writing in a TV newsroom (required)
• Experience producing newscasts in a broadcast environment
• Strong news judgment and editorial skills
• Prioritizing and managing multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
• Familiarity with newsroom systems and digital platforms
• Must be willing to work on-site in San Jose, CA
• Flexible availability, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and breaking news

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Bay Area news market
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
