News Producer

About the role

The News Producer at WDAF-TV Fox4 in Kansas City is responsible for producing daily newscast items, deciding the order in which stories will be told, writing teases and other content, timing news programs, editing video, and posting video to the website.

Responsibilities

• Produces daily newscast items
• Decides the order in which stories will be told
• Writes teases and other content
• Times news programs
• Edits video
• Posts video to the website
• Broadcasts newscasts across all platforms
• Writes and orders news stories
• Approves story scripts
• Balances news and feature content to create compelling broadcasts
• Searches wire services, network feeds, websites, and social media for relevant content for newscasts
• Writes stories for the website and other eMedia platforms
• Performs graphic design and effectively uses graphics in newscasts

Requirements & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Fluency in English
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Two years’ experience in news operations preferred
• Learns and utilizes newsroom technology
• Able to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Flexibility to work any shift
