News Anchor / Reporter

About the role

The News Anchor serves as the primary presenter of news stories and other content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers. This role is a hybrid position that demands a high-level storyteller; in addition to anchoring newscasts, the successful candidate is required to report on major local stories as part of their day-to-day duties.

Responsibilities

• Beyond studio duties, you will act as a lead field reporter, responsible for identifying and covering "big stories" that impact the community.
• Must be proficient in the full production cycle—shooting, writing, and editing—to deliver polished, high-impact segments.
• Expected to report 3 days a week, in addition to weekend anchoring responsibilities.
• Produces content for multiple platforms, including TV, internet, mobile, etc.
• Works with management to enterprise and develop stories daily.
• Demonstrates compelling storytelling using dynamic live shots and stand-ups, creative graphics, and use of digital and social media platforms.
• Organizes material, determines angle or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
• Gathers and verifies information regarding stories through interview, observation and research.
• Builds network of sources who supply information that allows the Company to stay ahead of its competitors.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree required (equivalent years of experience may substitute for education)
• Three (3) years television anchoring or reporting experience required
• Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation
• Strong reporting skills
• Understands the importance of social media
• Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills
• Promotes teamwork and maintains an attitude of cooperation with all station personnel
• Operates newsroom computer systems
