News Anchor

WTIC Newstalk 1080 (Connecticut’s number one radio news operation) is seeking an experienced, energetic, and creative part-time News Anchor/Writer. This is not a training position, though extensive experience is not required.

About the role

This part-time, on-site position in Hartford, CT reports to the Brand Manager. The ideal candidate will anchor top and bottom hour newscasts, operate the audio board, write stories, and update our website. Applicants must be reliable, self-motivated, and committed to local news.

Responsibilities

• Anchor newscasts over multiple hours on WTIC NewsTalk 1080, including operating the audio board
• Conceptualize, pitch, produce, and record news segments
• Gather, write, record, edit, and deliver news content, including live coverage during breaking news
• Interview news makers and write scripts or ad-lib material for stories
• Use social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) to engage listeners, promote stories, and highlight station content
• Contribute audio, video, and written content to WTIC.com
• Develop and research potential news stories
• Protect the station’s FCC license
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

• Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work a flexible schedule (early mornings, evenings, overnights, and/or weekends)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Detail-oriented with the ability to meet tight deadlines
• Experience anchoring and writing news
• Experience with audio boards and digital editing
• Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to local news

Experience in the Hartford market is a plus.
