New York Abortion Access Hub Navigator
The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. In partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives to advance community health throughout the city.
About The Role
The Bureau of Maternal, Infant and Reproductive Health is seeking a Hub Navigator for its Abortion Access Hub to provide referrals on where and how to obtain an abortion in New York State. Navigators will conduct brief interviews with callers and chatters to the Hub to assess their abortion needs, including type of abortion, preferred location, date/time availability, and insurance. They will also evaluate whether callers require additional funding or support (such as transportation, childcare, or housing) and provide warm handoffs to providers based on identified needs.
About the Program
After the Supreme Court eliminated federal protections for abortion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the NYC Health Department launched programs to protect and promote abortion access, including the Abortion Access Hub, which opened on November 1, 2022. The Hub is the first centralized, municipally funded navigation and referral helpline for people seeking abortion information and care in New York City. The program is expanding its referral network to include abortion providers statewide.
