New Grad RN Resident - Medical ICU

About the Role

Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, a Magnet‑recognized facility, is seeking an RN Resident for its 26‑bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The unit cares for patients with sepsis, altered mental status, diabetic ketoacidosis, stroke, post‑cardiac arrest hypothermia, as well as those requiring suicide and overdose monitoring. The RN Resident will interact directly with patients, families, and visitors, providing care from admission through discharge.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a residency core curriculum tailored to individual learning needs.
• Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
• Establish and revise patient‑care priorities based on acuity, patient preference, and resource availability.
• Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and take corrective action.
• Seek supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
• Document care accurately in patients’ medical records.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (required for Critical Care areas) to be presented upon hire or within the first year.
• New graduate or less than one year of RN work experience, or a RN transitioning from a non‑inpatient setting to acute direct‑care with less than one year of acute inpatient experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Recent nursing graduate with an ICU practicum.
• Nurse Assistant Extern (NAE) experience.
• Inpatient clinical experience.

Physical Requirements

• Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients.
• Manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination.
• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium work: exerting 20–50 lb occasionally, 10–25 lb frequently, or up to 10 lb constantly.
• Use of personal protective equipment and adherence to Standard Precautions as required.

Pay

Hourly range: $35.50 – $55.60. Compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education, and does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of the benefits package.

Schedule

Night shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.
