About the role
The HCA Healthcare Residency Program at Henrico Doctors' Hospital is a year-long, paid program designed to transition new graduate nurses from the classroom to professional practice. The program includes:
- Advanced clinical training in a specialty area
- Monthly educational sessions
- Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor
- Skills measurement and evaluation through hands-on simulations
- Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders
- Collaborative work on an evidence-based practice project
Start date: October 12th.
The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department-specific requirements and state/specialty scope and standards. Using nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage," the RN Resident collaborates with medical providers and care teams to provide individualized, compassionate care while advocating for patients, families, and caregivers.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting any changes in status
- Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers
- Document administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
- Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient for therapeutic response
- Notify provider and intervene as appropriate for unintended medication responses
- Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs
- Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, status, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures
- Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment
- Other certifications may be required during employment
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program
- Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse in the State
- No previous experience needed
- Some travel may be needed for training
