New Grad RN Labor and Delivery

This position is for Nursing Graduates working under the direct line-of-sight supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in a clinical setting. The role involves participating in patient care delivery, excluding independent nursing care, and may include medication administration under RN supervision. This job is available for up to 12 weeks while employees are enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and preparing for the State Boards examination (RN licensure). After 12 weeks or upon failing the State Board exam a second time, the employee must transition to another role or face termination. Registered Nurse graduates must be enrolled in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates understanding of the nursing process and patient plan of care development, implementation, and revision under RN supervision.
• Assessment: Collects patient data (e.g., vital signs) under RN supervision, reports significant changes, and completes accurate documentation.
• Planning: Observes and discusses prioritization of patient needs and the interdisciplinary plan of care with the RN.
• Implementation: Observes the implementation of the patient plan of care, considering specialized needs such as physical, emotional, social, age, and ethnic factors.
• Evaluation: Reports patient responses to treatments and collaborates with the RN on modifying nursing interventions.
• Participates in patient/family education under RN supervision, based on assessments, diagnosis, and learning readiness.
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for patient care delivery within their defined role, discussing all aspects of care with the RN.
• Recognizes legal and ethical implications of care delivery, complies with regulatory standards, and maintains confidentiality.
• Aims to achieve RN licensure in a timely manner and completes orientation, training, and the Nursing Residency program.

Requirements

• Successful completion of an accredited Nursing (RN) education program (verification required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed or passed NCLEX awaiting licensure.
• Direct experience in a Labor & Delivery (L&D) Unit (e.g., tech or capstone student).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to see, read, and assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment.
• Frequent verbal communication with care providers, patients, and visitors, including during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity for complex equipment operation, computer use, and medication preparation.
• Lifting and transferring patients, including bending, retrieving, and carrying supplies/equipment of varying weights.
• Walking, pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, and navigating crowded/busy clinical environments.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: Ability to drive a vehicle, including sitting, reading signs, and navigating traffic.

Pay

Nursing Graduate: $32.27/hour. New Graduate RN: $35.22/hour (must have less than 1 year of RN experience to qualify as a New Grad).
