New Grad RN Residency
About the Role
The HCA Nurse Residency Program at Oviedo Medical Center is a year-long, paid program designed to transition new graduate nurses from the classroom to professional practice. The program provides hands-on experience, advanced clinical training in a specialty area, and a supportive community of nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents to help establish valuable clinical and critical thinking skills.
Residents will participate in monthly educational sessions, preceptorship training, skills measurement through simulations, mentoring from nurse leaders, and an evidence-based practice project. Cohort start dates and specialties available:
- 7/13/2026: Medical/Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac/Neuro
- 8/24/2026: Medical/Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac/Neuro
- 9/28/2026: Medical/Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac/Neuro
The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department-specific requirements and nursing scope and standards. The role uses established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage" and serves as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, reporting changes in status.
- Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers.
- Document administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
- Administer prescribed medications, monitor therapeutic response, and intervene for unintended reactions.
- Respond promptly to patient requests and anticipate patient needs proactively.
- Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures, translating complex medical terminology for clarity.
- Collaborate with medical providers and care team members to provide individualized, compassionate care.
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment.
- Other certifications may be required during employment.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the state.
- No previous experience needed.
- Some travel may be required for training.
