New Grad Registered Nurse (December 2026 Graduates)

About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN-Critical) performs assessments, develops and implements care plans, and evaluates patient care. This role administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians, directs and monitors care provided by non-licensed personnel, and leads the interdisciplinary care team for patients with primarily cardiovascular disease. The RN-Critical also performs technical services, including patient specimen testing, quality control, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Completes admission assessment and periodic reassessments according to patient progress and unit routines.
• Documents findings and communicates pertinent information to interdisciplinary team members.
• Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop, evaluate, and revise the plan of care.
• Provides competent direct care and ensures a safe, comforting environment for high patient satisfaction.
• Assists healthcare team members in understanding hospital policies and procedures.
• Educates patients, families, and significant others, incorporating patient-specific criteria and readiness to learn.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and standard precautions.
• Administers medications and completes treatments per provider orders and hospital policy.
• Maintains all necessary documentation and facilitates care plan transitions.
• Demonstrates knowledge and use of necessary patient care equipment.
• Coordinates interdisciplinary team responses to emergency situations.
• Performs Point-of-Care procedures in a timely manner, adhering to policy and quality control standards.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

Cath / EP Lab

• Performs patient assessments pre-, peri-, and post-procedure.
• Maintains a safe, aseptic environment in the Cath Lab.
• Administers medications as ordered by the physician.
• Maintains competent knowledge of all procedures and adheres to protocol.
• Assists personnel, patients, and physicians as needed.
• Ensures all supplies are available and equipment is in good working order.
• Participates in department maintenance.
• Ensures patient has a documented H & P by a physician prior to procedure.
• Provides concise reports to accepting RN post-procedure.

Emergency Department

• Seeks additional education to increase emergency medicine knowledge.
• Exhibits flexibility in transitioning between emergency nursing and other clinical areas during high census.
• Maintains adequate par levels for equipment and supplies.
• Assesses immediacy and nature of patient illness/injury upon arrival.
• Demonstrates competency in managing emergency nursing across different body systems and age groups.
• Facilitates continuity of emergency treatment to minimize delays.
• Maintains competencies for patients held in the Emergency Department.
• Completes EMTALA-required medical exam screenings in a timely manner.

PCCU and PACU

• Formulates and revises individualized care plans based on patient response.
• Evaluates plan effectiveness regularly.
• Communicates clearly with Resource Nurse, Director, and Physician.
• Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia identification, and ACLS protocol.
• Performs head-to-toe assessments per policy.
• Monitors hemodynamic status and interprets results correctly.
• Consults other departments for an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
• Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.

Surgery / Operating Room

• Meets on-call responsibilities as defined in departmental policies.
• Maintains equipment and supplies.
• Fosters an environment conducive to perioperative care advancements.
• Educates families/significant others on perioperative care.
• Prepares operating room and equipment with sterile supplies and instrumentation.
• Maintains sterile technique and infection control principles.
• Functions as a Scrub Assistant, assuming primary and secondary scrub duties.
• Assists with safe patient positioning on the OR table.
• Counts sponges and related items with circulating nurse before and during procedures.
• Assists operative team with donning sterile gowns/gloves and applying drapes.
• Cares for surgical specimens on the sterile field.
• Maintains an organized sterile field for use during procedures.
• Assists in patient transportation and provides concise reports post-procedure.
• Ensures patient has a documented H & P and signed consent prior to procedure.

Day Patient / Short Stay Unit

• Formulates and revises individualized care plans based on patient response.
