New Construction Senior Estimator

About the role

The New Construction Senior Estimator at Baker Roofing Company is responsible for pricing and selling assigned projects, supporting department-wide development, and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities

• Project Bidding: Download bid documents, assess project scope, and plan for timely completion.
• Review Specs: Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits as needed, review specs, drawings, and details to ensure full understanding and compliance.
• Manage Quotes: Submit RFIs, clarification requests, and substitution requests by deadline, obtain and evaluate material and subcontractor quotes.
• Create Estimates: Produce accurate take-offs and complete estimates using sound judgment.
• Bid Reviews: Participate in bid reviews and submit complete proposals with scope, spec references, and exclusions.
• CRM Management: Maintain CRM with up-to-date bid status and follow-up activity.
• Relationship Building: Build GC/customer relationships to secure last-look opportunities on pricing.
• Pre-construction Evaluations: Perform pre-construction budget evaluations and value engineering assessments.
• Contract Negotiation: Review and negotiate contracts for scope accuracy and correct pricing.
• Project Handoff: Produce project fact sheet, schedule of values, and billing information, lead or participate in project start meetings and complete action items.
• Submittal Review: Review submittals for accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
• Team Support: Support other departments in completing their responsibilities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: At least 3 years of estimating experience, 5+ years preferred.
• Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of low-slope roofing systems (single-ply, modified bitumen, etc.), working knowledge of sheet metal, wall panels, shingles, and Hydrotech systems.
• Industry Standards: Familiarity with NRCA, SMACNA, building codes, and BRC field practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Software: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), EDGE estimating software, Salesforce, Bluebeam, Plan and spec reading.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, high attention to detail, strong organizational skills.
• Leadership: Ability to lead, teach, and train others effectively, strong problem-solving skills, thrives under deadline pressure, customer-service mindset with effective presentation skills.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based with moderate noise. Occasional site visits requiring ladder climbing. Driving required; occasional travel by air. Close visual work with computers and documents.
