Reporting to the Branch Service Manager, the New Accounts Representative processes a variety of new accounts for customers, including checking, IRA, CD, and other deposit accounts. Collects required information, completes account setup, verifies references, and handles documentation. Provides information on interest rates, fees, and bank policies, and may transfer accounts. Responds to customer inquiries, resolves issues, operates a cash drawer, processes transactions, and ensures compliance with bank policies and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assists consumer and business customers in selecting accounts, products, and financial services; applies professional sales techniques to present cross-sell opportunities.
- Interviews customers to obtain information, establish identification, and determine reference investigations.
- Makes decisions on opening new accounts, assigns account numbers, completes forms, checks credit history, accepts initial deposits, and prepares documents for checking, savings, and certificates of deposit.
- Accurately processes teller transactions, including over-the-counter, night drop, courier, and mail transactions.
- Operates computer terminals to process account activity, determine balances, and resolve problems.
- Maintains knowledge of new account opening and servicing processes, including documentation and customer interviews.
- Cross-sells products and services in support of branch campaign programs.
- Provides leadership and guidance to BSR staff and communicates training or service concerns to the Branch Service Manager.
- Assists with daily, weekly, and monthly reporting and supports branch audit certification (ICRP) processes.
- Complies with bank operations and security procedures, including dual-control functions.
- Answers customer questions, investigates and corrects errors, and resolves problems or issues.
- Records, files, scans, and updates information; sorts mail or reports as required.
- Gathers data and processes reports and callbacks.
- Handles complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
- Demonstrates effective organizational and time management skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Business or equivalent experience.
- Three or more years of new accounts experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a financial institution with a background in operations, sales, or customer service.
Skills & Qualifications
- Broad knowledge of new account documentation, including fiduciary accounts, corporations, and related account types.
- Intermediate experience in branch operations, terminology, and products/services for retail and commercial customers.
- Broad knowledge of applicable state and federal banking compliance regulations and Bank operational policies.
- Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation, including mainframe systems, word processing, spreadsheets, and account-opening software.
- Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs.
- Broad knowledge of general office practices.
- Basic math skills, including calculating interest, balancing accounts, and handling whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to locate and correct routine mathematical errors and accurately count currency, coin, and negotiable instruments.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports, and communicate clearly with customers and employees.
