Responsibilities The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of South Alabama Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine is seeking an Instructor of Neurosurgery to provide patient care, teach medical students, residents, and fellows; participate in research and scholarly activities, and supports the academic mission of the department. The instructor works under the guidance of senior faculty while developing an independent academic career. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Deliver comprehensive neurosurgical care in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings. Perform neurosurgical procedures appropriate to training and credentialing. Teach and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and other healthcare professionals. Participate in curriculum development, lectures, conferences, and simulation training. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional meetings. Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and departmental initiatives. Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation. Serve on departmental, institutional, or professional committees as assigned. Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes. Maintain board certification, licensure, and continuing medical education requirements. Work with the Attendings and Advanced Practice Providers in the Department of Neurosurgery to provide high quality patient care at USA Health University Hospital and USA Health Providence Hospital. Ensure adequate Neurosurgery physician coverage of the service line 24/7/365. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: MD or DO degree (or international equivalent). Completion of an accredited Neurosurgery residency. Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure and hospital privileges.
